[Case Study] Prevention of Foreign Matter Contamination in Food Manufacturing Lines and Reduction of Inspection Work

A case where Nord-Lock washers were proposed to prevent the loosening and falling out of screws.

Here is a case where we proposed the "Nord-Lock Washer" to a food processing manufacturer. In the final stage of packing the manufactured liquid, screws used in the equipment line fell off and were shipped without anyone noticing, resulting in contamination of the product. After our proposal, there have been no signs of screw detachment, and the emergency measure of inspection work has been eliminated, leading to a reduction in the burden on the workers. [Overview of the Issue] ■ Screws used in the equipment line fell off and were shipped while contaminating the product without anyone noticing. ■ The issue was discovered by chance during an inspection at a retail store, leading to a halt in production and a recall of all products. ■ Since then, all areas with potential for detachment have been addressed with emergency measures. ■ The inspection work before starting operations has become an excessive burden, so we want to implement a fundamental solution. *For more details, please refer to the related links or feel free to contact us.

Bolt and nut locking, Nord-Lock

The locking method of Nord-Lock has passed the German standard DIN25201.

Nord-Lock uses wedge-shaped cams and employs tension instead of friction, making it a unique loosening prevention method. It is a loosening prevention system that is incomparably safer than conventional methods.

Why doesn't HEICO-LOCK(R) loosen?

Why doesn't HEICO-LOCK® loosen?

Reliable, safe, and easy-to-use HEICO-LOCK(R) locking device An explanation of the principles supporting this locking device. 1. Hardness difference: H (HEICO) > H (material) The surface hardness of the washer is harder than that of the general fastening material and nut/bolt, and it firmly spikes into the surfaces of the fastening material and bolt/nut. 2. Friction difference: μ (a) > μ (i) Friction coefficient of the wedge-shaped cam surface on the inside of the washer: μ (i) Friction coefficient of the radial tooth surface on the outside of the washer: μ (a) 3. Angle difference: α > β Angle of the cam surface on the inside of HEICO-LOCK(R): α Lead angle of the screw: β 4. Axial force (preload) difference: F (dyn) > F (stat) Dynamic axial force (dyn) occurring in an environment where a load in the loosening direction is present Static axial force (stat) during tightening The locking effect of the HEICO-LOCK(R) series has been demonstrated through vibration tests in accordance with international standards. - German Industrial Standards (DIN 65151, DIN 25201-4) - U.S. Aerospace Standards (NASM 1312-7)
